Here are some recent as well as long-term projects.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Quarter Century of Activism<\/strong><br \/>\nFrances Shedd-Fisher, former President of HSHA, wrote an <a title=\"Reminiscences about our neighborhood\" href=\"?page_id=254\">overview<\/a> of what a quarter century of neighborhood activism can do.<\/div>\n<h3>February 15, 2011<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Pond Avenue Traffic Flow<\/strong><br \/>\n<a title=\"Pond Avenue Crosswalk Plan\" href=\"?page_id=160#letter110215\">Letter<\/a> to the Transportation Board offering alternative suggestions to the Town&#8217;s plan for traffic calming on High Street.<\/p>\n<h3>January 11, 2011<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Classic Street Signs<\/strong><br \/>\nSubmitted <a title=\"Classic Brookline Street Signs\" href=\"?page_id=152\">letter<\/a> in support of Brookline&#8217;s cast-aluminum street signs to FHWA during public comment period on street sign regulations.<\/p>\n<h3>November 10, 2010<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Residential Burglary<\/strong><br \/>\nArrange <a title=\"Residential Burglary in the Pill Hill \/ High St \/ Point Area\" href=\"?page_id=156\">meeting<\/a> with police to discuss wave of break-ins in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<h3>April 8, 2010<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"?page_id=160#initial\">Meeting<\/a> to discuss crosswalks on Pond Avenue.<\/p>\n<h3>Mar 18, 2010<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Zoning Compliance on Boylston Street<\/strong><br \/>\n<a title=\"Mormon Church to Build Oversize Structure on Boylston Street Across from Reservoir\" href=\"?page_id=201\">Letter<\/a> from nearby residents including some neighborhood residents requesting that the Zoning Board of Appeals not grant a waiver to build an oversize structure.<\/p>\n<h3>Spring 2009<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Local Historic District \/ Preservation Commission Survey<\/strong> <a title=\"Local Historic District \/ Preservation Commission Survey\" href=\"?page_id=208\">Survey<\/a> of Local Historic District homeowners who had appeared before the Preservation Commission at an application hearing within the last three years.<\/p>\n<h3>November 4, 2007<\/h3>\n<p><strong>High Street Traffic Safety<\/strong><br \/>\nLetter to Transportaton Board requesting a traffic assessment study of High Street due to &#8220;frequent automobile accidents, serious safety concerns for pedestrians, speeding by motorists, frequent violations of posted No Left Turn signs, and limited sight distances&#8221; (<a href=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/high-st-letter-11-07.pdf\">pdf<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h3>October, 2007<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Philbrick Triangle Name Survey<\/strong><br \/>\nThe triangular greenspace on Upland Road has long been informally known as &#8220;The Green.&#8221; Its official name however has always been &#8220;Philbrick Square.&#8221; A <a href=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/highlight07091.pdf\">survey<\/a>\u00a0was held to determine which is more preferred: Philbrick Square or Philbrick Green. The <a title=\"Philbrick Square or Green\" href=\"?page_id=217\">responses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>June 15, 2005<\/h3>\n<p>Letter to Selectmen expressing concern that the increased volume and speed of traffic on Pond Avenue weakens the link between Olmsted Park and the neighborhood (<a href=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/pond-ave-letter-06-05.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">pdf<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h3>Walnut Street Reconstruction<\/h3>\n<p>When Walnut Street was reconfigured to incorporate various traffic calming elements, a large amount of street signage was added. Many residents feel the new appearance is not consistant with the neighborhood&#8217;s status as a historic district. View the petition for the complete list of issues.<\/p>\n<h3>November 22, 2004<\/h3>\n<p>The Transportation Board has reviewed the issue again and further reduced the remaining sign count to 76.<\/p>\n<h3>Two Brookline Place Redevelopment<\/h3>\n<p>The High Street Hill Association advocates neighborhood participation in town planning so that a balance is acheived between neighborhood and town needs.<\/p>\n<h3>October 16, 2004<\/h3>\n<p>Transportation Board to meet with HSHA and <a title=\"Walnut Street Sign Walk\" href=\"?page_id=231\">walk<\/a> along Walnut Street to discuss signs. The neighborhood feels that the approximately 100 signs remaining after the reduction are still too many.<\/p>\n<h3>September 28, 2004<\/h3>\n<p>The DPW Transportation Division has responded with a <a title=\"Walnut Street Sign Removal\" href=\"?page_id=227\">plan<\/a> to remove about 18% of the signs.
