Just a few hundred yards from the Village Green, Brookline’s earliest settlement, lies the neighborhood familiarly known as the Point. The area’s popularity is readily understandable when one considers that many homeowners have the advantages of investment property as well as the locational advantage of proximity to the downtown commercial district. The prototype ‘three-decker’ structures which are characteristic of the Point offer spacious living quarters for the homeowner on one floor while permitting the transfer of some of the costs of homeownership to the rental units on the other floors. Over the years, the Point has retained its character in spite of the rapid urban changes that have occurred in the Boston core.
